Nokia closing online stores, UK next to go

Seems each month this year will see us witnessing the gradual decay of what's left of Nokia, it's a horrible sight to see. We've recently heard that the company has already closed a few of it's online stores, including Netherlands, Spain and France. It's been reported that UK is next in line to be smashed by the hammer at the end of June this year.

The Nokia affiliate team spilt the beans to the affiliate network in an email:

"This message is to inform you that Nokia is closing their affiliate programme… in keeping with a strategic business decision to close down the Nokia UK online shop."

Unfortunately, this wont aid the company with their hold off until Windows Phone 7. In a strange sense you could look at Nokia members of staff as the people of Rohan from Lord of the Rings attempting to defend Helms Deep (Nokia), while everything is being thrown at them (Orcs and Uruk-hai). WP7 is Gandalf and the Rohirrim, just visible in the distance but still have a few months ride to go.

But this move is required, especially since carriers and retailers are able to offer enticing deals to consumers, so not many would choose to shop at Nokia when Amazon and high street stores are able to provide better offers. Let's hope the focus remains as I'm sure we will all remain truly excited to see what they'll bring to the table late this fall.
